OK, this next bit of advice might seem an obvious one, but you’d be surprised at how many techs struggle with this one. I’ve talked about cleaning contacts and fretboards, but today I’m talking about the simple act of cleaning and polishing the instruments, amps, straps and everything else!
It’s our job to make sure everything stays in working order and is presentable, and the best way to do that is to wipe things down every day. If your like me, and tech more instruments than just guitars, like keys and drums, you need a versatile cleaner that can handle many surfaces.
In my opinion, the most affordable and effective cleaner/polish out there is the new formula Pledge! The new formula doesn’t have any wax and can cut through sweat drips and dirt like the best of them, and smells great too! Also, Pledge works on leather straps, vinyl amp covers, drum hard wear and even drum shields! Spray some on a cloth and clean the keyboards, and watch your musician fly up and down the keys. Polish your guitars and hear complaints from the audience that the light reflecting off the super shiny guitar is blinding them! Pledge can be used all over the stage and a can is a must have in every guitar tech’s arsenal.
